Grounds Technician/PT (30 hours/week)
- Accountability
Accountable to the AVP- Campus Operations and supervised by the Grounds Coordinator
- Qualifications
Is a graduate from a standard vocational or high school; has experience in landscape management or grounds keeping services or possesses any equivalent combination of training and experience. Certification or license in specific technical trades is preferred, but not required.

- Ability to work outdoors in both hot and cold climate for extended periods of time
- Be able to move about the campus freely
- Duties
- Is accountable to the AVP of Campus Operations and is supervised by the Grounds Coordinator.
- Assists in the overall landscape maintenance of the campus.
Examples of work but not limited to:
- Responsible each morning to work through the University grounds and collect loose debris (manmade or natural)
- Performs routine inspections of grounds and building exteriors and reports problems and damages timely.
- Performs general maintenance of grounds equipment and maintenance services of equipment when needed.
- Operates trucks and other motorized vehicles safely and properly. Specifically riding lawnmowers, weed-eaters, edgers, hedge trimmers and blowers.
- Assists with campus construction projects with tasks such as hammering, drilling, fastening, painting, bracing, and handling materials.
- May be called on to assist in the maintenance of the buildings.
- Handles and moves materials, equipment, and furniture. Properly utilizes material handling equipment to ensure the safety of self and others.
- Trade Specific Tasks for the Grounds Technician.
Performs skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices in the installation, alteration, maintenance, and upkeep of the campus grounds to include general landscaping, athletic fields, flower and other ornamental beds, shrubs, and trees.
Examples of work but not limited to:
- Maintains lawns by operating commercial mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other mechanical and hand tools.
- Trims and maintains flower beds, shrubs, trees, and other vegetation. Uses trimming equipment, chainsaws, and other equipment.
- Is responsible for maintaining seasonal areas to ensure that each season the landscape is excellent.
- Performs routine service and basic repair of grounds equipment.
- Is knowledgeable of various occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Documents work using the work order system as appropriate.
- Properly uses and safeguards assigned tools and equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
- Compensation and Benefits
The Grounds Coordinator is paid on an hourly basis at the rate established by Emmanuel University. The policies concerning compensation and benefits are explained in detail in the Employee Handbook.
