Professor of Mathematics
Nina Ye is a Professor of Mathematics. She earned a BA in English Education from Jiangsu Normal College in China and later received an MS in Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
After teaching middle and high school in China for more than fifteen years, Dr. Ye moved to the United States. She has taught college mathematics for over twenty years, including more than a decade at Emmanuel University. She views teaching as a lifelong calling and works to make mathematics understandable and relevant to her students. In addition to helping students develop mathematical skills, she encourages curiosity, Christian character, and a heart for serving others. She often uses everyday examples and illustrations from the Bible to explain challenging concepts. For example, she uses Matthew 6:24—“No one can serve two masters”—to illustrate that a function assigns exactly one output to each input.
Her research interests include mathematics teaching and problem solving. She is the lead author of the book Assessing the Impact of a Computer-Based College Algebra Course (Scholars’ Press, 2014). She is also interested in learning from the strengths of different educational systems to help prepare future generations of students. In her free time, Dr. Ye enjoys music, walking around campus, and watching classic movies.
Dr. Ye became a Christian while pursuing her PhD in the United States. Her favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you … I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
