Emmanuel Professor Receives 2021 Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award

Emmanuel College was thrilled to award Ms. April James the 2021 Vulcan Teaching Excellence Award on May 8, 2021, at Emmanuel’s Spring Commencement ceremony.

Established in 1991, the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Awards honor an outstanding professor on selected member campuses of the Georgia Independent College Association. The annual award is presented to a member of the faculty in recognition of excellence in teaching, commitment to student success, and leadership to enhance the campus community.

Ms. James earned her bachelor’s degree from Brenau University and her master’s degree in Public Administration from Piedmont College.

She has served as an adjunct professor in Emmanuel’s School of Business for eight years. Since 2017, she has also served on the administrative faculty overseeing the college’s freshman first-year experience program, EC Foundations 101, along with the EC Bridge retention initiative. She serves as the institution’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) liaison and as the director of career services.

“April has been a joy to work with since she came to Emmanuel,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. John Henzel. “She has the rare ability to be able to adapt her gifts and talents to almost any job or situation.”

Congratulations, April! Thank you for all that you do for Emmanuel College.
