EC Livestock Judging Team Signs Godwin

Makenzie Godwin, member of the Franklin County 4-H Livestock Judging team and recent graduate of Franklin County High School has signed a letter of intent to judge for the Emmanuel College Livestock Judging team. She will receive a four-year scholarship for being a member of the team along with the opportunity to travel across the United States and see some of the best livestock available. Coach Cole Roper is excited about gaining Makenzie as she will be a strong member of the 2021-22 Freshman team. Makenzie Godwin is the niece of Mark and Norina South and lives in the Red Hill community. 

Students at Emmanuel College have the unique opportunity to become members of the Emmanuel College Livestock Judging Team. The team is coached by Mr. Cole Roper, past member of the UGA Livestock Judging team. The team competes as the only Junior College team in the Southeast and enters National Collegiate Livestock Judging Contests across the United States 

Students participating on the team receive scholarship money along with the opportunity to travel across the country meeting industry leaders and learning more about the one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. Livestock judging allows students to evaluate several species of livestock, determine the merits of the animal based on visual inspection and use statistical data to predict the industry value. Team members are then allowed to explain their decision to livestock experts using oral reasons and persuasive speech. The students have one year of eligibility at the Junior level and then they have the opportunity to transfer to a college offering Senior Level Collegiate Livestock Judging or remain at Emmanuel and complete their degree. 

Students wishing to judge this fall must be a freshman or sophomore with less than 60 credit hours of college coursework. Transfers or freshman still have time to register for this fall to be a part of a new winning tradition. 

The Agriculture Department at Emmanuel College offers degrees that are hands on, industry-based experiences which provides college students with the necessary academic skills to succeed in today’s agriculture workforce. Currently two degrees; Diversified Agriculture Bachelor’s Degree with concentrations in Business, Communications, Missions and Science or Agricultural Education are offered by the college.  Emmanuel College is one of the top small colleges in the nation and is training leaders for the future.
