History Minor

The History Minor at Emmanuel University invites students to explore the events, cultures, and ideas that have shaped our world. Through the study of American, European, and world history, students develop valuable skills in research, critical thinking, communication, and analysis that apply across a wide range of careers.
Designed to complement any major, the History Minor provides students with a deeper understanding of historical perspectives while strengthening their ability to evaluate information, understand diverse viewpoints, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
Admission Requirements
Students pursuing a History Minor must:
-Complete at least one History course at Emmanuel University with a grade of C or higher.
-Maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
-Maintain a 2.5 GPA average in History courses.
Program Requirements
To earn the History Minor, students must:
-Complete all requirements for their bachelor’s degree.
-Complete 18 credit hours of History coursework.
-Earn a grade of C or higher in each required course.
-Complete additional coursework if more than two courses are shared between the student’s major and minor.
-Receive approval for any course substitutions through the University’s Course Substitution/Waiver process.

Lower-Level History Requirements – 9 Credit Hours
History Minor students must complete the following foundational courses:

HY 111 – Western Civilization II* 3
HY 272 – American History I* 3
HY 273 – American History II* 3
*The Liberal Arts Core requires one History course for all students. History Minor students complete the remaining lower-level History courses needed to fulfill this requirement.
Upper-Level History Requirements – 9 Credit Hours
Students must complete upper-level coursework in multiple areas of historical study:
