Mandrake Miller – Vice President for Student Life

Mandrake Miller is a seasoned professional, who has built a career in higher education administration. Currently, he serves as the Vice President for Student Life at Emmanuel University. Prior to Emmanuel he served as Vice President for Student Success & Engagement at Edward Waters College and Dean of Students at Tuskegee University. Miller’s student affairs-focused career spans multiple leadership appointments at Livingstone College, Bethune Cookman University, Chowan University and Virginia Union University

Miller is a United States Army Veteran, and did tours in Iraq and Kuwait. As an ordained minister, Miller shares a passion for working with people and strives for greatness in all his endeavors. As an educator and leadership guru; learning, integrity, and respect are important components of his practice. Merging philosophical frameworks together governs how he engages.

Miller’s professional philosophy is to ensure a quality and rewarding experience for all communities under his leadership. A visionary with a unique understanding and appreciation for today’s millennial students, he is committed to institutional advancement, student engagement, and the holistic development of students. Miller is committed to developing programs that promote diversity, pluralism and cultural competency. His vision is to create a culture and environment in which all stakeholders make a commitment to strive for personal integrity; to treat others with dignity and respect; and to become involved in creating a community that is inclusive and welcoming for everyone. He is dedicated to enhancing the growth of all stakeholders to reach their full potential by providing rich learning opportunities through comprehensive programs, services, and professional development. Ultimately, Miller’s goal is to make a positive impact in the world.

A native of South Carolina, Miller holds a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, with a minor in Christian Education from Morris College, and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University. He currently is completing a Doctorate of Education with a concentration in Higher Education Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University. Miller is married to Shaquana Miller and they have a six year-old daughter Madison.

Chris Maxwell – Director of Spiritual Life & Campus Pastor 

Chris Maxwell served 19 years as lead pastor in Orlando, Florida, after five years of youth ministry. He’s now in his 16th year as Campus Pastor and Director of Spiritual Life at Emmanuel University. He speaks in churches, conventions, and schools, and is the co-host of Next Step Leadership podcast. Chris has been the editor or ghostwriter of over forty books and is the author of eleven, including “Pause With Jesus,” “Underwater,” and “a slow and sudden God: 40 years of wonder.” His latest book is “Equilibrium: 31 Ways to Stay Balanced on Life’s Uneven Surfaces.” Chris is also serving now as Pastor of Goldmine Church in Royston, GA. 

Jerrica Grant -Executive Assistant to the VP for Student Life

Hey, Howdy, Hey! My name is Jerrica Grant. I’m from Toccoa, Georgia, and I’m a 2017 graduate of Emmanuel. I currently serve as the Director of Student Activities and Leadership and Head Cheerleading Coach. I enjoy traveling the world and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs (Go Dawgs!). Higher Education is my passion. I love doing life with college students. It’s amazing to see how students transform within their four years of college and being a small part of that transformation is a beautiful thing.

Marcus Wilson – Assistant Director of Residence Life

Marcus Wilson graduated from Emmanuel in May of 2020. After graduation, he went on to obtain his MBA and returned to Emmanuel as the Assistant Director of Residence Life. 

His favorite part about working in Student Life is that he has the opportunity to inspire students to become the best versions of themselves to change the world for the glory of God. 

Sam Wooten – Assistant Director of Residence Life

Hi, my name is Sam Wooten, and I am from Anderson, South Carolina. I recently graduated from Emmanuel with a degree in Middle Grades Education and am super excited about what the Lord has in store during my time as a staff member here at Emmanuel. I enjoy many different sports and activities during my free time, and you can often find me out playing Ultimate Frisbee, watching a Braves game, or enjoying a round of golf. Outside of sports, I always enjoy a good cup of coffee and spending time with family and friends.
