Bachelor's Degrees
The Elementary Education program at Emmanuel University leads to the Bachelor of Science degree and prepares students for a teaching career in preschool through grade five. The Elementary Education program is designed to develop knowing, sharing, caring teachers with a Christian philosophy who are generalists in content areas and who are specialists in child development. A collaborative shared inquiry framework is used to equip students with the competencies needed to link child development theory with developmentally appropriate curricula and teaching strategies. Students in the Elementary program receive multiple opportunities to observe and teach in local school systems. During the freshman and sophomore years students will observe for 20 hours in the schools. Once students are admitted into the School of Education, they will receive 200 hours of experience as Juniors and 680 as seniors in the public-school setting. The experiences in the schools allow students to put into practice the things they are learning in the classroom. A reading endorsement, which is embedded in the program, enhances the skills of these prospective candidates to teach reading. At the completion of the program, if certification requirements for the state of Georgia have been met, candidates will receive an induction certificate in Elementary Education with a reading endorsement.
The dual Elementary/Special Education program at Emmanuel University leads to the Bachelor of Science degree and prepares students for a teaching career in preschool through grade five with a dual certification in Elementary Education and Special Education General Curriculum. The Elementary/Special Education Program is designed to prepare candidates to meet the challenges of students with disabilities as well as the typical elementary school student. Theory and practice from both the fields of elementary education and special education are incorporated into the foundation of the program. Students in the dual Elementary / Special Education program receive multiple opportunities to observe and teach in local school systems. During the freshman and sophomore years students will observe for 20 hours in the schools. Once students are admitted into the School of Education, they will receive 200 hours of experience as Juniors and 680 as seniors in the public-school setting. The students receive experiences in both the general education and special education settings. The experiences in the schools allow students to put into practice the things they are learning in the classroom.
The Middle Grades Education program at Emmanuel University leads to the Bachelor of Science degree and prepares students for a teaching career in grades four through eight. The Middle Grades program is designed to develop knowing, sharing, caring teachers with a Christian philosophy who are specialists in at least two content areas. In addition to professional education courses, students at EU majoring in Middle Grades Education take 15-21 semester hours in two areas of concentration. These concentrations are chosen from the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Theory and practice from both concentrations are incorporated into the foundation of the program. Students in the Middle Grades program receive multiple opportunities to observe and teach in local school systems. During the freshman and sophomore years students will observe for 20 hours in the schools. Once students are admitted into the School of Education, they will receive hundreds of hours of experience in the public-school setting in grades 4-8 in both areas of concentration. The experiences in the schools allow students to put into practice the things they are learning in the university classroom.
The secondary Business Education program leads to the Bachelor of Science degree and prepares students for a teaching career in grades six through twelve. The program is designed to develop knowing, sharing, caring teachers with a Christian philosophy who are specialists in the field of business education. Students study business and classroom pedagogy to prepare them to link theory learned in the college classroom with practice. Placed in a variety of public school settings, they showcase their knowledge and skills in real world classrooms.
The English Education program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and prepares students for teaching English in grades six through twelve. The program both broadens students’ knowledge and gives them a firm Christian foundation. The general core in the curriculum gives students experiences in areas in addition to English and teaches them a Christian philosophy and worldview. Professional courses and practicums starting in first education course equip students with theoretical and practical pedagogy to create knowing, sharing, and caring teachers for today’s classrooms.
The secondary History Education program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and prepares students for teaching history in grades six through twelve. The program is designed to produce knowing teachers who have internalized content of breadth and depth enabling them to instruct history as a specialty field. Through these practicums, students practice the knowledge and skills they have learned in the college classroom in a real-world setting.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Mathematics Education explores educational foundations, methods, theory, and the practice of teaching mathematics in grades 6-12. This program is designed to prepare effective middle and high school teachers of mathematics who are knowledgeable, caring, and capable of sharing a rigorous curriculum while meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
The students will be knowledgeable in a Biblical philosophy of mathematics and in the requisite mathematical principles and processes as prescribed in the NCTM Curriculum Standards and the Georgia Standards of Excellence. Understanding that God created a world with design, structure, and order, and it is mathematics that describes and defines this structure, the math education students will have the ability to present mathematics while instilling confidence in their students that math works and everyone can learn math.
Graduates from the program will understand that, as a teacher, knowing mathematics is not enough. Teachers do not teach mathematics; they teach students mathematics. Student teachers will learn to empathize with their students’ challenges, and they will grow to understand that the teacher must care before the students will learn.
For a teacher, knowing mathematics and caring for students is just the beginning. The student teachers in the program will become well-versed in research-based instructional methods and pedagogy for the mathematics classroom. Mathematics education requires active participation on the part of the learner. The math education graduates will enter their teaching career armed with the tools necessary to actively engage students in the mathematical process. They will know how to effectively plan, prepare, and deliver an exciting and engaging lesson.
Schools who hire an Emmanuel Mathematics Education graduate will employ an enthusiastic, engaging, and active member in the school community.

This noncertification major enables EU students to work with young children in a variety of agencies, such as Head Start, preschool centers, after-school programs, children’s museums, recreation programs, children’s ministries, and some private schools.
