KJ Jones named Regional Scholar Athlete of the Year

Today, the NCAA DII Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CAA) announced the 2022-23 regional winners for Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 

Emmanuel senior, KJ Jones of the Men’s Basketball team received the honor for the Southeast Region.

Jones, a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-American, D2 CCA All-American and the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and tournament MVP, led Emmanuel to the 2023 Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Men’s Basketball Championship title and an NCAA Division II tournament appearance. He led all of NCAA Division II in points per game (26.2) and was fourth in total points (761) in the 2022-23 season.

“This is an incredibly well-deserved honor for KJ,” Conference Carolinas Commissioner Chris Colvin said. “KJ has put together one of the best careers in the history of Conference Carolinas. His accolades on the court are second-to-none, but it’s his efforts in the classroom and in all areas of the student-athlete experience that truly make his such an amazing representative for Emmanuel, Conference Carolinas and all of NCAA Division II.”

Off the court, the Business Administration major holds a 3.89 GPA and hopes to become an attorney when his playing career has finished.

Emmanuel Head Coach, TJ Rosene continues to be amazed by KJ’s work ethic on and off the court.

“KJ is such an impressive young man,” he said. “The way he does anything is truly the way he does everything. Excellence is his standard. It doesn’t matter if it’s basketball, academics, or relationships. He’s going to care deeply, put his heart and soul into it, and the results in every aspect speak for themselves. It’s fun to watch God work in him and through him.”
